How It Works: Basement Waterproofing Referrals in Philadelphia, PA

This page follows a basement request from a homeowner in Philadelphia, PA, starting the moment it's sent. It reaches one independent local contractor, and the visit, the estimate and any agreement are between you and that company alone.

Who We Are and What We Do

Philadelphia PA Basement Waterproofing is a free referral service, not a waterproofing company. Pennsylvania's Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act treats anyone who offers to undertake or agrees to perform home improvement, waterproofing included, as a contractor who must register with the Attorney General. This site holds no such registration and no City of Philadelphia contractor license, so it never offers, agrees to or carries out basement work. It simply hands each request to one independent contractor serving the Philadelphia area.

As for money, contractors may pay this site for advertising, which runs as a free trial at the moment. Homeowners are never billed, and nobody is offered a gift, discount or reward for sending a request.

How a Request Moves Along

  1. You reach out. Send your address and a short note on where water or damp appears, using the form.
  2. One company gets it. A single independent contractor receives the request, and it goes nowhere else.
  3. A visit gets arranged. The contractor contacts you, sets a time, looks at the walls, drains, gutters and grade, and explains what they notice.
  4. You choose what comes next. With a written estimate in hand, ask questions, gather other quotes if you like, and sign nothing until you're comfortable.

Questions for Any Contractor

Pennsylvania has no separate waterproofing license, but every home improvement contractor must register with the state, and Philadelphia layers its own licensing on top through L&I. Townships such as Upper Darby, PA and Abington, PA keep their own contractor rolls. This site checks none of it, so these questions are yours to ask.

  • Its PA registration number. It belongs on the company's ads, estimate and contract. Confirm it with the Attorney General's online Home Improvement Contractor search or at 1-888-520-6680.
  • City or township standing. In Philadelphia, look the firm up with L&I's "Find a licensed contractor" search or through 311; firms working only on existing one- and two-family homes file their state registration with the City instead. In a township, ask its code office.
  • Proof of coverage. Ask to see certificates for liability insurance and workers' comp before anyone starts digging.
  • Who handles the plumbing. A backwater valve, or anything tied into the house drain, needs a Philadelphia-licensed master plumber and a permit. Ask who pulls each permit.
  • A complete written contract. For jobs over $500 it must list the start and finish dates, the total price, the registration number and a notice of your right to cancel.
  • Fair payment terms. On jobs over $5,000 the deposit generally can't exceed one-third, and no payment should change hands before you sign.
  • Warranty and pressure. Get warranty terms on paper, ask whether they transfer, check for a local address and references, and be wary of anyone pushing for a same-day signature.

Clear Lines on Our Role

After the hand-off, this site steps aside. It makes no home visits, writes no estimates, quotes no prices, takes no payments and signs nothing. It doesn't favor one method over another and stays out of insurance matters entirely. Questions about the work, a warranty or a bill go to the contractor. If a dispute can't be settled, contact the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection (the home improvement line is 1-888-520-6680), Philadelphia L&I or your township.
